Today the crane assembly on trucks is done by installing steel sub-frames. These sub-frames reinforce and stiffen the original chassis of the trucks. The correct design of these components allows the proper functioning of crane and withstands the efforts that these vehicles are subjected in the daily work.
More frequent use of large load cranes in trucks of 2, 3 or 4 axles require the manufacture of large size sub-frames. These sub-frames increase the tare of the truck and therefore reduce the useful load.
In addition a wrong design of a sub-frame may generate to breakage of the sub-frame or the truck chassis, due to stresses generated by the crane.
This paper shows the experimental tests carried out to determine the critical manoeuvres in the daily work of a crane. Besides it includes the design, optimization and experimental analysis carried out in the development of a new model of sub-frame for trucks.
