This research paper show a numerical study in order to optimize the welding parameters of GMAW process, determining its influence on the size of the heat affected zone and the distribution of temperatures over plates by the Taguchi method. The singular variables that interact in this process are, power, welding advance speed and profile gap to weld. In this work is showed a Taguchi method that uses L9 orthogonal matrix, with two levels for every process variable. In this paper will be working on the variables which have major influence and how to work out the minimum size of the heat affected zone , in order to optimize the joint mechanical properties. Also the cooling critical time between 400 and 300 ºC (t4/3) will be optimized. Keywords: 7010-T76 Aluminum; weld; T4/3 cooling time, Taguchi, finite element method
