    Resumen
This communication analyzes the CO2 emissions during the production, construction, use and demolition of a reinforced concrete (RC) column made with blended cement. Likewise, the influence of carbonation and durability is examined. Portland cement production was the responsible for about 76% of the production and construction emissions in the RC column. Thus, the use of fly ash and blast furnace slag as a clinker replacement was studied for the CO2 reduction. However, these types of cement had two characteristics that penalized their sustainability. CO2 capture by carbonation was reduced between 20% and 80% due to the blended cement use, and service life was about 10% shorter. Results proved the influence of carbonation during the use and reuse as gravel in land filling. Even so, this study confirms that the use of blended cements reduces the annual emissions. Keywords: Life-cycle; fly ash; blast furnace slag; carbonation; durability.
