Spanish Royal Decree 171/2004, of January 30th, develops article 24 from 1995 Spanish Risk Prevention at Work Law. This article defines the Coordination of Business Activities when observing the concurrence of workers of several companies in the same workplace. This concurrence sometimes increases the risk to which workers may be subjected by the interaction of another activity that is normally unknown. Therefore, this regulation establishes the obligation to cooperate and inform; and the person in charge of coordination appears among others roles. Since 2004, this preventive activity has been applied more concretely. However, the standard is in some aspects imprecise and in practice its application suffers from a series of defects and deficiencies that in this paper will be analyzed with the aim of offering ideas for its better implementation. One of them is the omission of the designation of the coordinating person when necessary. Another problem that usually occurs is the confusion of roles between the owner and the principal employer. Hence the need to carry out an analysis that allows clarity to the realization of this activity.
