Steel reinforcement production is subject of study in an environmental life-cycle assessment of structural concrete. Due to the characteristics of the steel sector, an open access for detailed data related to plant operation (production, raw materials, fuels and electricity consumption) is not possible. Energy demand and carbon dioxide emissions for the Spanish sector have been studied analysing the literature and performing interviews with professionals from the steel sector. Results indicates an energy consumption range of 6,64 -13,63 GJ/t and an emission range of 0,340-0,913 tCO2/t, in case of recycled steel. Transport processes and reinforcement preparation are also studied. These results are of interest for its use in the sustainability assessment of structural concrete, in accordance with the Spanish reality.
