The future Basic Energy-Saving Document of the Technical Building Code (CTE-DB-HE) strengthens demands in terms of energy savings and efficiency by updating the definition of a nearly zero-energy building with the aim of continuing to adapt the 2010 Energy Performance of Buildings Directive in Spain. In this paper, we study the energy rehabilitation of a single-family house built in 1985 and located in Logroño (La Rioja) to ensure that it complies with the future CTE-DB-HE. In addition, the energy, environmental and economic impact of said rehabilitation is evaluated. The rehabilitated single-family house must have considerably lower primary energy consumption and non-renewable primary energy consumption, a lower global heat transfer coefficient and solar control measures for its thermal envelope. Furthermore, at least 50% of its domestic hot water (DHW) demand must be met using renewable energy. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the thermal envelope, replace the existing heating oil boiler used for heating and DHW with a natural gas condensing boiler and incorporate a solar support system to cover part of the DHW needs.
