    Abstract
The implementation of BIM (Building Information Modeling) allows managing the project information of a building or infrastructure from the design phase to its maintenance and operation. The BIM model can handle all the project information and documentation using a database as a repository of a virtual 3D model. Companies in the construction industry implementing BIM are benefitting from the development of collaborative technologies, projects lifecycle costs decrease, the integration of more sustainable solutions and improving their market competitiveness. However, the companies that have decided to implement BIM, are also making an effort changing their innovation culture. By considering different “innovation concepts” and current models that explain the development of companies’ innovation, the aim of this study is to build a theoretical model that explains how the implementation of BIM incentivizes different types of innovation in companies in the construction industry.
