The high-speed train is a type of transport which has the feature of moving large numbers of passengers in a safe, comfortable and efficient in relatively short travel times to a specific distance range, reducing pollution and highway traffic congestion. However, due to the high investment and operation costs the majority of high speed lines in the world require public subsidies for their operation. For this reason, it is convenient to carry out in-depth economic studies that determine adequate returns on the investments used in the employment of this technology, especially in developing countries as it is the case of Mexico.
This paper explores the environmental and financial feasibility of the Mexico-Guadalajara high speed train of 618 km long, with intermediate stations at Querétaro and León. The potential demand project is estimated with passengers using air transport and land transport in the corridor.
