In the municipalities of Gran Canaria island, which constitute more than twenty percent of those of the Canary Islands’ Archipelago, industrial activities take place mainly in small areas, known as industrial estates, most of which do not meet the minimum conditions required, and many of which are located in urban areas. The only one that stands out from this profile is the Arinaga Industrial Estate, which does have the necessary infrastructure but is inappropriately divided into plots that are unrealistic for the type of industry carried out here. This analysis includes a compilation of data on the types of industrial activities carried out on the island, the characteristics of its industrial areas and how they relate to island-wide and municipal regulations. It then goes on to analyse the existing industrial areas both quantitatively and qualitatively, based on supply, demand, management and the surrounding environment. This analysis enables us to establish specific strategic proposals to enhance and improve current industrial areas as well as creating new coherent spaces in line with demand in future planning.
