Innovation and technological evolution, with exponential growth in recent years, have for some time led to an important technical, economic and social transformation of different sectors and industries and, at the same time, are triggering changes in production, management and control systems.
The increasingly widespread use of new technologies is pointing to a more efficient adaptation to current industrial, productive and constructive needs, to a better assignment of resources, and to an optimization of processes and management. Although progress in this regard is taking hold, there is still a long way to go.
The present deployment towards the visual and 3D concepts in many of these technologies seems evident, often providing a great advantage when it comes to sharing information more easily.
Therefore, its use is being enhanced in numerous tools, some already existing and others completely new. It is at this point where we can include BIM (Building Information Modeling), whose current status and trends within industrial projects are being reviewed in this paper.
