In the current economic environment the organizations’ intention of maximizing benefits leads them to improve the use of management methodologies. Portfolio Management Project or Project Portfolio Management (PPM) is a methodology increasingly used to achieve this objective. The theoretical model of PPM was created in 1952 by the Nobel’s prize of economy Harry Markowitz, although its use began to be extended in the late years of twentieth century, with the implementation of Portfolio Management for information technology (IT) projects. Today these procedures are mainly used in banking and IT sectors, despite they are also extended to engineering sectors.
The aim of this industrial research is to create a theoretical model of Project Portfolio Management based on a study of theories of Project Portfolio Management, as well as on professionals methods used in practice to implement the PPM. The starting point will be the estate of art study and an assessment of Project Managers Portfolio applications. With these analysis we will check how organizations use their SAP ERP Project Portfolio Management module so that they can be implemented with the same model.
