The purpose of this project is to improve the food security of rural families in the Ch’orti Region of Guatemala. The project includes three key points:
1. Development of a food and nutritional diploma to improve the social capital in the region’s communities. In seven specific modules, women and men from the region’s communities are trained in different aspects of the rural development such as organization, leadership, health and community nutritional education, sustainable agriculture, microfinance and development of food and nutritional micro projects.
2. In parallel, following the horizontal knowledge’s transfer methodology (farmer to farmer), the diploma’s participants will create support groups in their own communities to teach neighbors their acquired knowledge. The support groups will develop productive food and nutritional projects to be implemented within their communities.
3. The aim of the third element of the project is the replication of the microprojects by word of mouth, quickly spreading the knowledge to the whole community.
