In this paper the process of managing a project is analyzed when your team members are in different geographical contexts. With the development of this research work is systematized, through the literature and empirical evidence, the sequence and stages to be taken into account to successfully manage a project with these characteristics.
The methodology is exploratory and descriptive. Analysis and interpretation of the literature was conducted to determine the process of managing such projects. Theoretical evidence is validated by implementing a tool to a group of project managers from different parts of America, determining the phase structure and more features to the described context.
It has been found that there are some common activities to implement the optimal management process by the managers interviewed, which can be standardized for projects implemented under conditions of geographical disaggregation. Also it has been found that in several cases the directors did not follow a common standard, making the process according to its characteristics.
