Due to the globalization of the food supply, we see nowadays a large price difference between the producer and the consumer. The current market conditions and the power
of the huge retailers make that the producers have little market power, and thus suffer price erosion. We describe in this article an alternative way (production and
distribution) to create a fair trade between producers and consumers. This fair trade should help producers to enhance their financial retribution, increase products quality
and decrease the environmental impact. We will demonstrate the economic viability of this new concept through the installation of a local logistic platform at the Aran valley
for selling fresh products directly from producers to consumers.
Keywords: Local distribution networks, economic viability of local logistic platform, fair trade, sustainable agriculture.
