Hunger is a problem that currently affects more than one billion people worldwide, which 53 million are in Latin America. In the latest years prestigious international organizations have studied the problem and proposed different solution strategies. To improve the conditions in the most disadvantaged territories is very important the political commitment of governments and the participation of institutions and people with the ability to apply these strategies. In order to know the institutionalization level of food security in the Higher Education in Central America and the Honduras situation in detail, it was made a review of specialized programs in the region and a perceptions study among Honduran professionals. The study has determined that the offer of programs in food security is limited, and, therefore, it’s necessary to increase this offer with specific programs that provide an integral formation. Because the intensity of the problem and to make the Higher Education more relevant to the society problems, It’s also urgent that Universities take part in research processes and knowledge transfer in relation to the subject.
