Although there is no single definition of what is meant by “indicators”, today they are a essential tool for decision making and monitoring of policies or commitments made by a country or region. Generally understood to measure, assess and monitor, in a quantitative and unambiguous way, changes, impacts and trends in the state and quality of resources.
There is great variability in the indicators, both in terms of its definition, and its territorial context of use, its uses and application fields of evolution, or the conceptual models in which they integrate.
However, there are some general principles for the establishment and use of indicators, as well as some basic characteristics that must be fulfilled, that we will try to study for their correct construction and application to rural development in Galicia.
