This paper explains how you can take out the basic design of a complete thermal solar plant using simple program like Microsoft Excel. It enables to generalize to any type of solar thermal power plant with parabolic cylindrical collectors.
With this work, we want to open a line of development for the simulation of complex power plants using very simple and easy to handle, in an effort to put the engineering design tools available to everyone.
The methodology we use is the same for other industrial plants where there is a process, either a thermal process (case) as a chemical process (which will cause further development work).
The idea is to use the tool (which is available to any engineer at a very reasonable price) to avoid the use of tools to more specialized engineering software whose licenses are beyond the reach of most design engineers. This would avoid expensive licenses to use tools, which are: Termoflow, Aspen, etc.
Keywords: design of industrial plants; solar thermal power plants; low-cost design methodologies
