When launching great investment projects it is necessary to determine the requirements and efficiencies that such a process implies, in order to dimension the inputs and costs and evaluating the interest of introducing new equipments. Anyway the possible combinations are huge so the decision is not simple, especially considering that every case has its own limitations: scarcity of water, deficient energy supply, etc.
This paper presents a tool that, incorporating data from real processes as well as information for the BREF and Bat reports, is capable to do What-If simulations of the global efficiency of any steel making installation according to the means and techniques used. In this way, several scenarios can be evaluated as the convenience to introduce heat regenerators, reactors, exchangers or other measures of efficiency improvement, considering the costs of acquisition, installation, usage, maintenance and amortization of the selected process. The tool has converted in an essential element for the investment evaluator.
Paper explains the example of its application to the Sintering plant.
