Nowadays, several technologies have been developed in order to generate energy and reduce pollutants emission. Among several technologies, should be highlight the gasification process. The gaseification is a process that converts a biomass into a poor gas (syngas) for feed an internal combustion engine (ICE) that produce 5 kWe of electrical energy. In this study, a downdraft biomass gasifier coupled an ICE is assessment technically, economically and ecologically. In the energetic point of view, the study allows know the energetic parameters involved in each control volume considered in the system (Gasifier, Heat Exchanger, Internal Combustion Engine). In the economical point of view it considers all the fixed and variable costs involved for the electricity generation in the ICE. The syngas cost, hot water cost and expected annual revenue are determined too. Finally in the ecological point of view neglecting the closed carbon cycle it determine the emission factor from the syngas combustion in ICE, this factor is compared with the emission factors of gasoline combustion, diesel combustion, and biodiesel combustion.
Keywords: emissions; costs; efficiency; biomass; gasification; feasibility.
