The process of transforming pig iron into steel is made in a converter where pig iron and various additives are introduced and the main parameters are adjusted depending on the type of steel desirable. Once the process is finished, first the undesirable side in the steel (LD slag) must be separated from the steel produced, to then proceed to separate the usable steel. So far, the composition of this slag was simply a waste product from steel production.
Nevertheless, to produce a material with the required characteristics nowadays is no longer enough; this material must also reduce the environmental impact that the process produces. Given the high quantities of slag produced, the possibility of reusing it as a secondary product could be a substantial improvement in the process. Therefore, an analysis is presented in order to allow the achievement of the desired quality of steel without introducing changes in the process, but also to obtain it from the most adequate slag for later reuse, so that it is possible to improve the environmental impact of steel globally.
