    Resumen
The “Salón de la Villa” is the space created after covering the courtyard in the “Palacio de Telecomunicaciones” in Madrid with a light glass structure of 2.600 m2 with an approximate height of 24 m, which allows for the hosting of events with a big number of attendees. From an HVAC point of view, the “Salón de la Villa” is a very complex space due to its height, meaning strong temperature stratification effects and the greenhouse effect caused by the enormous glass ceiling. To compensate these negative effects when on a cooling regime, a split system is designed, using low speed air diffusion and an underfloor heating system, used as undefloor cooling during the summer. The aim is thus to take advantage of the stratification effects in order to provide comfort to the lower part of the courtyard, resulting in strong energy savings. Computational fluid dynamics models allow for a more efficient decision making and the optimization of the project. In this case, the software used is FDS 5.0. by NIST that, although specialized in fire scenarios, provides satisfactory results for thermal fluxes at low speed.
