Landscape ecology discipline must be included as one of the basis of landscape planning. Since 1991, Landscape ecology has been formulated as a future guideline in planning due to its theoretical framework to study the dynamic of landscape.
Landscape ecology considers the biotic and abiotic relationships, that takes place in the territory. However, unlike to landscape ecology, landscape planning studies the territory in terms of the current and the possible future human activities in order to assess the consequences of new land uses. Landscape planning is a previous phase of the land use planning
Landscape ecology has been generating multiples analysis, criteria and experiences that have been included partially in landscape planning studies. This paper shows recent
contributions, and how different aspects of landscape heterogeneity can be used in land use planning.
