Projects selection is the responsibility of the decision entity, but for this compromise normally the decision maker doesn’t receive too much assistance. Naturally, there are decision models effective in the sense that they help to reach a solution, although not efficient because they don’t allow a comparison to be made with a reference. It is also true that not always there is interest in getting the optimal solution, but instead that which satisfies best; it would be useful to know which divergence exists between our results and the best.
This paper proposes using Linear Programming (LP). This guaranties to reach an optimal result, if it exists. This fact is widely known since long time with existing LP applications all over the world, but its drawback is that it works with one objective only, and frankly, this is not usually the case in most projects. It is suggested here a procedure which allows working with any amount of objectives, but obviously neither obtaining an optimal solution nor a knowledge of the magnitude of the divergence, but a ranking of alternatives based on optimal partial solutions, and consequently the result is more reliable than those from other methods using subjective appreciations.
