The certification of persons and processes is a global phenomenon that ensures efficiency and improves profitability of organizations. The system of evaluation and certification of labour competencies in Mexico: “CONOCER" has as ontological base the control and obtaining better value for human resource and production methods. Conversely, there are certifications models like the “IPMA” model, with certification functions under different ontological positions. This research makes a comparative analysis / qualitative of both models, using as basis the criteria and processes established by the ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 17024 norms. The analysis is complemented with exploratory quantitative data on user expectations and historical statistics of certified personnel in México. The methodology also incorporates an assessment of the effects of the Mexican model CONOCER through a participatory process integrating information and expert opinions involved in the certification of persons. The results show that both certification systems are seen as a powerful tool to improve the employability in México and are complementary models. The results show the expansion of the CONOCER model in México, and show the possibilities of future expansion of IPMA model, following the recent launch of the Mexican Association of Project Management.
