An universal testing machine for composite materials, according to UNE 53417:2001specifications and recommendations, has been designed and made by the authors.
Due to composite materials have an intermediate strength between metallic and polymeric materials, the department existing testing machines, were not suited to composite materials essays. This fact justified the new testing machine development.
Chassis has been our own made in the Mechanic Engineering department Facilities placed in Escuela Politécnica Superior de Alcoy. Hydraulics, cylinder, load cell and acquisition equipment have been taken from a welded joint test machine previously developed by the authors. That is what allowed the second test machine disposal at very low cost.
As outstanding advantages, apart from cost, in front of a conventional testing machine acquisition, we could relate:
1. Possibility of add great number of sensors to the acquisition process.
2. Simultaneous acquisition from sensor supplied magnitudes with the same program.
3. Possibility of making another essays: e.g. accelerated and sobreaccelerated movement.
