The furniture industry is one of the most representative sectors in the Valencian region, in terms of volume of production, turnover and number of companies, which generally are SMEs. The wood industry which belongs to this sector, covers various activities of transformation for the production of semi-finished products, finished products and recovery of wood. It is the third type of industry with more accidents at workplace, producing more than 50% of the accidents in the furniture manufacturing activity. This paper, shows the study of the conditions of health and safety of a family-business company, dedicated to the activity for more than 70 years. All risks have been identified and hygienic risks have been assessed for each workplace. The main risks identified were, exposure to chemicals, noise, lack of order and cleanliness, and poor work habits. With the aim to eliminate or mitigate them, proposed actions such as adequacy of the storage of chemical products, review of the extraction system located to improve their efficiency and reduce the noise as well as training on safety and health to workers. After the implementation of the cited measures, the initial level of risk was reduced effectively. Keywords: Woodworking; furniture; hygienic risks; health and safety
