Construction sites are places of work complex and often unsafe for several reasons: its working condition outdoors, dependence on weather factors, the pace of work, methods of execution, the high labor component and high subcontracting.
The Coordinator of Health and Safety is key in the development of the work, since most of the accidents in the construction industry have their causes in failures of organization, planning and control. The evolution of the traditional procurement model of construction works with a single contractor who performed all his own work has evolved to models with multiple contractors or several levels of subcontracting.
The aim of this paper is to analyze the characteristics of the organization, management activities and the skill level of safety and health of the contractors and subcontractors in various types of construction works with different contracting models, through the study of actual projects in the last five years (2009-2013).
