    Abstract
SMEs represent 99.87 % of Spanish domestic enterprises, contributing 71 % of employment and 52 % of the GDP [1]. They face important problems when tackling projects that will enable their competitive growth or adaptation to the market requirements. This means that the percentage of SMEs taking part in innovation projects hardly reaches 21.6 %, whilst the European average is around 44 %. In order to facilitate the risk management associated with the projects, initial research work and SME case- study analyses have been carried out. A second phase comprises a synthesis of project management theories, which have produced a simple guide to facilitate the risk management in the SME projects. This work gathers the tasks of whole-project risk analysis, basic tools, indicators, and solution types that allow SMEs to manage risk in all project phases and to eliminate the barriers that they currently face when tackling internal projects or collaboration projects with external entities. Keywords: Risk Management, Project, SME
