This article presents the results of a teaching strategy, based on new active methodologies and designed for the development of professional skills in project management. The research is supported by a mixed analysis (quantitative and qualitative), with the aim of analyzing a teaching strategy used in engineering students of the last year of the University of Piura for the acquisition of skills in project management under the IPMA approach. The evaluation period covers the last 3 years in which a teaching strategy has been applied that basically considers the planning of the teaching-learning process, the use of active methodologies, especially project-based learning and assessment by competencies as a key tool to facilitate learning. The results allow demonstrating, through quantitative analysis, strong evidence of skills improvement with high statistical significance that can be attributed to the learning process evaluated; assertion that is reaffirmed with the qualitative analysis.
