One of the characteristic and key elements of carrying out projects is the inherent uncertainty related to them. The possible events that may produce deviations from the original planning must be analysed in depth in order to avoid or mitigate their impact and ensure the project success. Therefore, Risk Management has a great significance within Project Management, and for this reason, it is necessary to study in detail the different tools and techniques that may lead to better results in this field.
Based on the above, a study about the Monte Carlo method applied to a software development project of a home system for a blind person has been conducted. Monte Carlo is generally applied running simulations using different lengths for the Project tasks, which makes analysing each individual project risk and finding alternatives to minimize their impact impossible. In order to avoid the limitations exposed and to find new areas of improvement for this method, Monte Carlo has been applied on the project risks, by making use of an Excel tool developed by the authors to examine this new approach.
