The metal sector encompasses economic activities such as metallurgy and the manufacture of metal elements, which include such diverse productive processes as the manufacture of ferrous and non-ferrous metal commodities, metal smelting, the coating of materials, the manufacture of tools and machinery, etc.
In short, the metal sector includes a large number of processes where different materials are handled and in which very diverse tasks and operations are carried out, making it one of the sectors of economic activity with the greatest claims and exposure to hardship, danger and toxicity of working conditions.
The aim of this communication is to analyse the claims and working conditions of the metal sector based on data prepared by the Ministry of Employment and Social Security (parts of the declaration of accidents at work) and data produced by the National Statistics Institute (National Classification of Economic Activities and Active Population Survey).
