    Abstract
A Building Information Model (BIM) is a digital representation of physical and functional characteristics of a building that, using open standards, aims to facilitate the decisions making not only during the design and construction of the building but during its whole life cycle. Although it is a well-known concept, in full force in specialized journals, its implementation in Spanish companies is still incipient. On the other hand, the implications of BIM go beyond the new Computer Aided Design (CAD) paradigm for construction projects, since to maximize the benefits of this technology implies to adopt organizational, methodological and procedural changes. This article is an international review of the state of the art regarding the advantages and disadvantages of BIM, from the perspective of project management. Keywords: Building Information Modeling (BIM); project management; construction projects
