The growing demand and increase in fossil fuel prices justifies the need to look for alternative fuels such as biodiesel. Rice bran is used as raw material to obtain it. The rice bran has low commercial value, is rich in oil to obtain biodiesel and comes from a traditional Valencian crop.
The aim of this work is the design of biodiesel production facilities from rice bran obtained in the white rice processing.
Since the quantity of rice bran available as raw material for the production of biodiesel is small and seasonal, other raw materials are used, such as oil seeds and used frying oils, obtaining a continuous supply of biodiesel which justifies the necessary investment.
In the present work the description of the productive process for obtaining biodiesel from rice bran is included. With this work, the recovery of rice bran and used oils is achieved, converting them into a product of interest such as biodiesel, as well as glycerine and lecithins as by-products with added value. All this is achieved with a global process that is technically feasible, economically viable and environmentally sustainable.
