    Abstract
Within the construction sector, public works procurement is one of its main pillars. With the lack of public investment due to the economic crisis that Spain has suffered in recent years and the consequent economic policies of austerity, the start-up and maintenance of many public infrastructures has been considerably reduced, especially in the local administration. The improvement in the economic data of recent years (2016 and 2017) has again led to an increase in investment in public works by public administrations, both national, regional and local. The objective of this communication is to carry out an analysis of the main characteristics of public works contracting in the local administration of the Valencian Community, specifically in municipalities with a population of more than 40,000 inhabitants. The study will be carried out by analysing the information available on the contracting portals of the State and Generalitat Valenciana, as well as on the contractor's profiles of the different municipalities in the sample study.
