Monitoring and control tasks during the development of a project are focused on the continuous and updated knowledge of the degree of compliance with planning. In addition, these efforts seek to have projections and metrics to anticipate possible deviations in the planning of the project. Deviations can be positive, if they are seen as opportunities for improvement, or negative, when they are understood as impacts on project performance, costs and project deadlines.
Every project is carried out in an environment of uncertainty. And this becomes more evident in large-scale construction projects, in which are involved a great variety of factors, such as long execution times (years), intrinsic risks (geology, hydrology, climate, etc.), and a large number of multidisciplinary activities developed in parallel.
This work analyzed the applicability of the Earned Valued and the Cost Schedule techniques in complex construction projects. The consistency and reliability of the results obtained by using these techniques during the development of a project were reviewed, with special attention to the management of costs, time and scope (project performance).
