GENERACIÓN Y GESTIÓN DE RESIDUOS DE ENVASE: ANÁLISIS DE LA SITUACIÓN EN ESPAÑA 1997-2011

Abstract

In 2008, Spain reached the objectives fixed by the European Union in reference to packaging waste management and has achieved maintain and even exceed them, according to the data held by the European Commission (Eurostat). Now faces the new targets for 2020 established by the Waste Framework Directive (Directive 2008/98/EC). This paper presents an analysis of the current state of packaging waste production in Spain, its evolution in recent years and management strategies that are being carried out both to prevent the generation of packaging waste to achieve increasing material and energy recovery of this kind of waste.
