The construction sector is one of the largest generators of environmental impact due to the large consumption of materials, energy, as well as the condition which is generated in the natural environment, therefore in this sector there are a lot of sustainability quantification tools. In this sense, the Spanish Code is a worldwide pioneer for having two annexes for assessing the sustainability of materials such as concrete (EHE-08) and steel (SEA-11).
There are a lot of materials on the market because of its natural origin are called "sustainable", either for its durability, low maintenance, or may need, and other cases is due to its ability to be reused, recycled or fully recover. Use of these materials must be right.
Wood is a sustainable material, being natural, renewable, recyclable, biodegradable, good insulation, non-toxic and requires little energy for processing. But to ensure these properties requires some control in the stages of design and construction. This paper shows a methodology for assessing sustainability in wood structures
