In automatic milking systems (AMS) the cows choose when they want to be milked. Regardless, cows visiting the AMS least twice a day have to be fetched to be milked since this could imply deterioration in the udder health (Hogeveen et al., 2001). Moreover with a decrease in the milking frequency not get the increase in milk yield expected which promotes this milking system over conventional milking (Wagner-Storch and Palmer, 2003). Most of the farmers set an alarm or warning for delay whether a cow exceeded the milking interval of 12 to 18 hours over the previous milking (Rousing et al., 2006). These milkings delayed are one of the main problems in dairy farms with AMS since it is a labour time consuming (Donkers, 2010).
The objective of this study was on one hand to determine the time spent on the labour to go find and fetching cows delayed. On the other know the rate of involuntary milking in dairy farms with AMS. Finally identify and assess the main causes of these delays.
