The high uncertainty on natural gas prices and the development of concentrated solar energy technologies has generated the expansion of integrated solar combined cycles (ISCCs). Since combined cycle gas turbines (CCGTs) reduce their efficiency at high air temperatures, which are localized when higher beam irradiation is available, a synergy exists between this efficiency loss and its compensation with solar energy. An integration of solar energy in Arrubal CCGT is proposed and modelled under different operating scenarios for seeking the optimization of natural gas usage or higher electricity yield.
