The energy rehabilitation of buildings is an opportunity for the economy of a country because it can create jobs and reduce energy consumption. Similarly, it is an issue of great environmental importance allowing reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable construction.
This paper presents a system for measuring the thermal conductivity, aimed at achieving results efficiently (proper knowledge vs. low cost) applicable to the preliminary exploration for proposing new lines of research in cement-based composites. Designed and built system works at steady state, in thermal equilibrium and cylindrical geometry. The method facilitates the use of molds in the preparation of samples.
We present results of thermal conductivities in traditional lightweight concretes and cement-wood composites to explore their utility as thermal insulating materials for energy rehabilitation and progress towards more sustainable building.
