The strong potential of green roofs to integrate developments into the surrounding landscape, joint with their aesthetic and environmental benefits have created a big interest about them over the last years, which have promoted their inclusion in many architecture and engineering projects. However, the current academic literature is mainly devoted to promote their construction without discussing the real benefits that they might provide to an actual situation. This research analyses and discusses their environmental, economic, climatic and aesthetic benefits to an actual context, the Spanish Atlantic cities, featured by specific climatic conditions, mainly mild temperatures and constant and plentiful rainfall, as well as their urban grain and building typology. Such analysis will have a holistic approach regarding the whole life cycle for every construction system.
