Project management should cover all types of projects. However, R&D projects, especially those carried out in Public Research Institutions (PRI) and financed in competitive public calls, must take into account a number of factors that differentiate them from the rest of projects. Specifically, they must attend certain regulations and rules of a different nature, imposed both by administrations (PRBs) and by funding bodies. Therefore, we must not only consider the factors inherent to any project, when managing it, but also those derived on the one hand, from its R&D status and, on the other, from the fact that are financed by public research supporting programmes. The aim of the paper is to analyse the characteristics of these projects and the extent to which the UNE-ISO 21.500 model is valid for managing them.es_ES
