ESTUDIO DE VALORIZACIÓN DEL RECHAZO DE UNA PLANTA DE RECUPERACIÓN Y COMPOSTAJE DE RESIDUOS URBANOS: OBJETIVO VERTIDO CERO

Abstract

In this communication, the results obtained in the study of the refuse from a recycling and composting plant are submitted. The main objective of this research has been to look for an alternative to dispose refuses instead of landfill. Refuse is formed by an amount of different materials that are not recovered for recycling, either because they are not possible to be recycle or because exceed the legal limit destined to recycling. Firstly, a physical and chemical characterization to a representative sample of the refuse of the plant was made; secondly, different alternatives to take profit of this product and the necessary characteristics for it study were studied; thirdly, necessary processes to turn the refuse into a subproduct with some of value were analyzed and finally, the most suitable option was chosen following economical and environmental criteria. The main goal of this works was to reveal than the refuse can be turn into refuse-derived fuel. Therefore, with a small modification in its composition, would be possible to profit the refuse as fuel in Spanish factories for cement works, observing Spanish laws and rules. So, applying that, the disposal of wastes in landfills would be minimized and even avoided. Keywords: recovery and composting plant, municipal solid waste, valorisation, refuses, refuse-derived fuel.
